About This Site
Dedicated to the use, preservation, and extension of ornamental turning knowledge.
The lathe is an ancient, simple, but very flexible tool for creating an amazing
array of useful and beautiful goods. The lathe is the only tool I know of that
can be used to reproduce another like itself, for the lathe is capable of
producing round, square, rectangular, and screw-threaded components.
Ornamental turning is a age-old craft, now beginning to die out as the master turners of the last generation find fewer and fewer apprentices to pass their knowledge to. Ornamental turning takes time to produce, and people seem to be busier and busier. But I believe that the act of ornamental turning focuses the mind and helps reduce stress and improve concentration. Not least of its many benefits is the fact that you produce something with your own hands, something you can exhibit as your own creation. Ornmental turning is no longer a dark secret of the turner's guilds -- modern turners love to show how to do things. so, if you have any interest in this art form, read through my Bibliography and ask questions!
